This format is especially used for limited edition book sets, special edition media, art prints and such where the product itself is part of the visual presentation and the full enclosure in a standard box would hide the product completely when displayed or partially when gifted. The Bookend format allows the product to be seen and appreciated while still giving meaningful end protection from the corner impacts and crushing pressure that most damage in the category comes from. The two-piece layout gives brands lots of room to print on the outside of each Bookend component, creating a visual frame around the product being protected.
