Single wall paper cups can’t solve on their own a problem that double wall cups address: how to hold a hot drink comfortably without needing a sleeve. Double wall paper cups are custom made with two layers of paperboard and a slight air gap between them. This provides a natural insulation that keeps drinks hotter and hands more comfortable for longer. You will find them in coffee shops and cafes, especially those that serve espresso drinks, tea and other hot drinks.

Double wall cups are produced in standard sizes for hot beverages. As the insulation is part of the cup structure itself customers do not require a separate sleeve and in fact reduces the total packaging material per drink when compared to a single wall cup with a separate sleeve.
The full color printing wraps around the outside, and because the print surface is on a slightly thicker, more substantial cup, branding reads as more premium right out of the customers hand. This is a style you see commonly in specialty coffee shops where the whole experience of the drink, including how the cup feels in your hand, is a part of the brand’s positioning. The double wall construction also tends to hold its shape better under pressure than a single wall cup which is important in busy cafes where cups are often squeezed, stacked or handled quickly in high volume service.
We have matching lids that fit double wall cup dimensions perfectly and we can even make compostable, PLA lined versions for cafes that are building their brand around sustainability. Double wall cups may be more expensive per unit than single wall cups but for many coffee shops it is worth it for their specific menu and customer experience. It offers an upgraded feel and requires fewer sleeves.
